Patina opened on 1 May 2025 in a 20-storey building a minute's walk from Osaka Castle Park, the brand's first city hotel, with interiors by Strickland in wood, plaster, washi and stone. The Ritz-Carlton, Japan's first, has been in Umeda since 1997 on floors 24 to 37 of a tower near JR Osaka station, its rooms redone in 2024 in the same English country-house style. Patina is the castle, larger rooms and a floor given to wellness; the Ritz-Carlton is the business district, a MICHELIN-starred French room and a doorman in a silk hat.

The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka
Opened in May 1997 as the first Ritz-Carlton in Japan, with interiors evoking an 18th-century English aristocratic residence; rooms occupy floors 24 to 37. Between April and October 2024, 287 of the 291 rooms and the guest-floor corridors were renovated under the theme of 'inheritance and renewal', keeping the original furniture and floral motifs alongside new lighting, panelling and colours. Patina is 50 to 55 minutes by car, with transport arranged on request, and Itami is 20 to 25 minutes. From the Ritz-Carlton, the airport limousine bus takes about 70 minutes to the Herbis Osaka stop by the hotel.
Yes: 287 of the 291 rooms and the guest-floor corridors were redone between April and October 2024. The original furniture and floral motifs were kept, with new lighting, panelling and colours.
