How to book Sumiya
Sumiya, a family-run ryokan on Fuyacho, takes some bookings only by telephone, much of it in Japanese only. A request made through its English pages is confirmed only when the inn replies.
Why it is hard from abroad
- Some rooms booked only by telephone, in Japanese
Good to know
- Children from age 6 only
- Dinner starts at 18:00 or 18:30; other times carry a service charge
- Vegetarian diets and allergies need three days' notice, and the dashi cannot be changed
- On the 7th and 17th of each month guests are invited to matcha in the tea room after dinner

Q&A
Only in part: some bookings are taken by telephone only, and a request from the English pages stands only once the inn has replied. Our team in Japan books Sumiya at the hotel's own rate.
