Sumiya Ryokan
Sumiya is a ryokan in a sukiya-style wooden building on Fuyacho-dori just south of Sanjo-dori, in the shopping streets of central Kyoto, opened in the early Taisho era and still run by the family. Tea runs through the house: there are two tea rooms, Gyokuto-an and Ichinyo-an, guests are invited to matcha after dinner on the 7th and 17th of each month, and the inn holds full tea gatherings (chaji) through the year.

Sumiya Ryokan takes some bookings only by telephone. Tell us your dates and our team in Japan books it for you, at the inn’s own rate. We ask for the room we would choose and look after everything else with the inn on your behalf: your preferences and requests, any special arrangement, from a celebration to a car from the station, and whatever you need before and during your stay. The price and cancellation terms are confirmed with you first.
The inn arranges hire cars to the airports on request; Kyoto station is about 15 minutes by taxi.
