GOTO RETREAT ray is a 26-room hotel opened in 2022 by Onko Chishin on the Abunze lava coast of Fukue, the main island of the Goto archipelago, inside the Saikai National Park. Its theme, 'island of prayer, sanctuary of light', draws on the Christians who kept their faith on the islands through the ban, with interiors by Yukio Hashimoto, Nagasaki glass and Hasami porcelain, and every room looks east over the East China Sea from its own open-air hot-spring bath.
