Q&A
Tsuruga Besso is the name on four of the group's inns, each of about 25 rooms; the group also runs larger hotels such as Akan Yuku no Sato Tsuruga. On our list are Hinanoza on Lake Akan, Ao no Za and Kohakunosho on Lake Shikotsu, and Moku no Sho in Niseko.
At Ao no Za and Moku no Sho, yes, at any age. Hinanoza takes guests of junior-high-school age and over and sends families to its sister hotels.
Ao no Za and Kohakunosho on Lake Shikotsu, about 40 minutes by car, with a free shuttle when booked ahead. Hinanoza is about an hour from Kushiro Airport, and Moku no Sho about two and a half hours from New Chitose.
Not the shared baths at Hinanoza or Moku no Sho, where tattoo stickers are barred too. Ao no Za and Kohakunosho have no shared bath, so you bathe in your room.
