The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Venice opened in 1895. It was last renovated in 2013: 15-month, €35m restoration of the whole palazzo: interiors by Chuck Chewning of Donghia Associates, architectural restoration by Veniceplan Ingegneria, new canal terrace, flood protection, and the Redentore Terrazza Suite added on the roof.
The Pisani family gave the palazzo its Gothic form in 1475; Doge Andrea Gritti lived here from 1525, John Ruskin wrote The Stones of Venice here, and it became a hotel in 1895 and a CIGA house in 1947. The 2013 restoration was led by Chuck Chewning of Donghia Associates (part of Rubelli) for the interiors, with Veniceplan Ingegneria restoring the building under the Venice heritage board.
