Izu

Asaba Ryokan

Asaba is a ten-room ryokan in Shuzenji Onsen in central Izu, founded in 1484 as a lodging house in front of Shuzenji temple and kept by the Asaba family ever since. Its rooms face a pond and a Noh stage, the Gekkeiden, which hosts seasonal Noh, Kyogen, Shinnai and Japanese dance performances.

Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

A Ritz-Carlton Reserve of 35 suites and 25 private pool villas on the Ayung River at Kedewatan, in the valley outside Ubud, opened in 2015. Suites and villas look over rice paddies, forest or the river, and the hotel holds three MICHELIN Keys.

A Palladian mansion of 1720 at Colerne in Wiltshire, six miles from Bath on the southern edge of the Cotswolds, reached by a mile-long drive lined with beech and lime and set in 500 acres of listed parkland. A family home until it became a hotel in 1987, it has 42 rooms and suites in the house and courtyard, nine cottages on the estate, an equestrian centre and three MICHELIN Keys.

The Gleneagles Hotel

Gleneagles is a country house hotel and golf resort in Strathearn, Perthshire, conceived by the Caledonian Railway's general manager Donald Matheson and opened on 7 June 1924. James Braid's King's and Queen's courses opened in the grounds in 1919 and Jack Nicklaus's PGA Centenary Course came later, alongside a shooting school, an equestrian school and a spa.

A 160-room hotel directly in front of Nijo Castle in central Kyoto, on the site of the Kyoto residence of the Kitake, the executive branch of the Mitsui family, which the family held for more than 250 years.
