Ritz-Carlton Reserve, until now a brand of remote estates such as Mandapa in Bali and Nekajui in Costa Rica, is going to a city for the first time. Marriott International has signed an agreement with Shanghai SIIC North Bund New Landmark Construction and Development to open a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Shanghai, scheduled for 2030.

The hotel will sit on the North Bund, inside a mixed-use tower of about 480 metres and 103 floors that will also hold offices, shops, residences and an observation deck. It is expected to have 110 rooms and suites, many facing the Bund and the Huangpu River, with a specialty restaurant, Chinese dining, a lobby lounge, a bar, an indoor pool and a spa.

Marriott calls this the urban Reserve concept and says it will be kept to a small number of gateway cities. When it opens, Shanghai is expected to be the only city in the world with all eight of Marriott’s luxury brands.
