Xinyi, Taipei
Grand Hyatt Taipei
A 27-storey hotel of 850 rooms and suites at 2 Songshou Road in Xinyi, Taipei, next to Taipei 101; when it opened in 1990 it stood almost alone in a district that had no other modern buildings. It works as a city within a city, with eight restaurants, 13 event spaces and a direct path to Taipei 101 and the Xinyi shopping district.

On Songshou Road in Xinyi, the city's main shopping and business district, connected to Taipei 101 and the neighbouring department stores without going outside; public transport is a five-minute walk and City Hall is next door.
Grand Hyatt Taipei opened in 1990. It was last renovated in 2014: all rooms and suites stripped back and rebuilt in 14 categories (first phase, one wing at a time); four restaurants, the Grand Club, the entrance and building systems followed into 2015.
Opened in 1990 on a then-empty Xinyi site, before Taipei City Hall (1994) and Taipei 101 rose around it. In 2013–14 the rooms were stripped to the concrete and rebuilt in 14 categories mixing Eastern and Western references, the largest overhaul since opening; Pearl Liang's interiors are by Tony Chi.
