Hotel Review: Courtyard Siem Reap Resort

There’re two Marriott properties in Siem Reap, Cambodia in 2024, one is Le Méridien which is unfortunately closed for renovations, and the other one happens to be an abnormal Courtyard by Marriott with 5 stars located outside the town centre.

In comparison to other 5 star hotel properties in town, Courtyard Siem Reap is priced fairly, requiring only $90+ USD per night at the standard cash rate for a night stay. For this reason, it looked like the target customer for this hotel is business travellers.

Courtyard Siem Reap is located 10 minutes drive and 30 minutes walk from the town centre, and you will have to take a fun ride on either a tuktuk, remorque, or a regular car on Grab as the hotel doesn't provide a free shuttle to the centre.

After an easy 45 minutes flight from Bangkok and 1 hour of drive from the new Siem Reap international airport, we finally arrived to the hotel property.

Checkin :

On arrival, while there was no staff who welcomed us or assisted our luggage at the entrance, the front staff at checkin were charming to provide welcome gifts such as local ice cream and a lotus flower bouquet. I didn't particularly have any high expectation from the hotel itself, but pleasantly surprised they confirmed my suite upgrade before my arrival. Given that Cambodia or Southeast Asia in general was experiencing low season, with fewer tourists and lower occupancy rates, the chances for suite upgrades were relatively high.

Room :

I was upgraded to a King Bed, Pool View, Suite from 1 King Bed, Guest Room.

There are only 6 room categories in this hotel property:

1. 1 King Bed / 2 Double Beds, Guest Room
2. 1 King Bed / 2 Double Beds, Pool View, Guest Room
3. 1 King Bed, Larger Room
4.  King Bed, Suite
5.  King Bed, Pool View, Suite
6.  King Bed, Presidential Suite

The suite was a massive 83 sqm, one-bedroom, with a lovely view of the pool area. While I generally like views facing outward from the property, the pool view here was surprisingly pleasant, providing a serene look at the courtyard trees and poolside.

Restaurant :

The highlight of my stay was dining at the hotel’s restaurant, Lok Lak. The menu was reasonably priced, especially compared to other restaurants at five-star hotels in Siem Reap. Breakfast was a buffet providing a mix of Western and Asian dishes, which was more than sufficient.

The hotel also features a rooftop bar with a panoramic view of Siem Reap. However, during my stay, it felt more like a lookout point for its under-occupancy, leaving the space somewhat dead and less lively than anticipated.

Conclusion :

A couple of major disadvantages were:

1. The suite room missed some amenities expected in a regular suite found in other Marriott properties, such as an espresso machine, coffee capsules, and
2. The hotel property is located right next to a neighbourhood where garbage is burnt open air, making it unpleasant and unhealthy to open the window.

Nonetheless, Courtyard Siem Reap Resort has its value proposition in this beautiful town. If you're a person who is loyal to Marriott looking to maximise your membership and come to Siem Reap only to witness Angkor Wat, this hotel works perfect for your very interest.
